US HS Codes Chapters and Sections
Browse by sections and chapters below to find the specific HS code for your product. Each chapter contains detailed subcategories with associated tariff rates and trade regulations.
HS codes vs. US HTS codes
The Harmonized System (HS) is an internationally standardized classification of traded goods, maintained by the World Customs Organization. Every country that uses the HS agrees on the first six digits of the code, which describe the product category at the global level.
US HTS codes extend the HS with additional digits for more precise classification. The United States Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) adds two digits at the 8-digit level to define the specific duty rate, and two more at the 10-digit level for import reporting and statistical purposes. This means a product's 10-digit US HTS code always starts with its 6-digit HS code.
To estimate the duties and fees on your import, use our import duty calculator — search by product name or enter a 10-digit HTS code to see an itemized duty breakdown.
Duty calculation examples
How a duty is calculated depends on far more than the HTS code alone. Section 232 tariffs on steel, aluminum, and copper products, Section 301 tariffs tied to the country of origin, and IEEPA reciprocal tariffs can all stack on top of the general (MFN) duty rate — and the entry date matters too, because new tariff programs take effect on specific dates.
Our worked examples show the full landed-cost math line by line, including the Merchandise Processing Fee (MPF) and Harbor Maintenance Fee (HMF). For instance, see T-shirt imports from Italy on September 25, 2025.
